About Time (Universal Pictures 2013). We often have a case of “here we go again” about Advent, the start of the new liturgical year. But actually we come with another year’s experience behind us, changed people. Here’s a “time-loop” film which shows people living the same situations again, but differently, because of what they learned since the last time.
Inside Out (Disney Pixar, 2015). An excellent film, and not just for children. The interaction between the personified characters, Joy and Sadness, is poignant when most of the world is trying to get carried away with the joy of Christmas while the Church looks for a deeper mood.
The Christmas Story (BBC, 2010). An innocent take on Luke’s and Matthew’s accounts. The BBC screened it as four episodes of about 30 mins each. Our disc presents them as one, so we’ll have our discussion half-way through on this occasion, and complete the screening then. Bring both your child self and adult self this week also.
Second Coming (Film 4, 2014). Have a look at John Moffatt’s review of the film on the Thinking Faith site, or at Mark Kermode’s review on the Guardian site. Of our four nights, this will stretch us most.
