Getting Married
in Ireland after 5th November 2007?
The most significant change
in Irish Marriage law since the 1840s is taking place in Ireland on and from
5th November 2007. This is the date when the relevant sections of the Civil
Registration Act 2004 come into force.
The Church of Ireland has also adopted its own Marriage Regulations in order
to implement this legislation and to comply with Church law.
For this reason, it is most important, that all those who are planning a wedding
in church should be sure to make contact with the clergyperson who is marrying
them at least three months’ before the proposed date of the marriage.
The local clergy have been trained to provide you with all the information
you require about the routine operation of the new marriage law.
The State continues to require three months’ notice of all marriages,
which notice must be made in person to the County Marriage Registrar.
For further information, you should make contact with the Marriages Unit of the General Register Office at 090-6632945/7/8/9, 6632964, or 6632970.
